The chief officer of Vodacom’s consumer business unit, Phil Patel, is moving on. He will be replaced in the role by Godfrey Motsa, who is currently chief officer of regional operations.
From April, Patel will take up the role of regional commercial director for Africa, the Middle and Asia-Pacific at Vodacom parent Vodafone, where he’ll report to group chief commercial and operations officer Paolo Bertoluzzo.
The changes were disclosed in an e-mail sent to Vodacom employees by group chief human resources officer Matimba Mbungela on Monday morning.
Patel joined Vodacom from Vodafone Turkey in 2012 and has been “instrumental in the success of the consumer business unit”, said Mbungela. “He has maintained market share leadership and continued to strengthen our reputation as an admired brand in South Africa.”
In Patel’s new role, he will support Serpil Timuray, the CEO of Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, in managing the commercial performance of local markets.
Motsa, meanwhile, has been with Vodacom for the past 10 years. He joined Vodacom’s South African operation in 2005 as head of brand marketing. Since then, he has held a number of senior roles including MD of Vodacom Lesotho and MD of Vodacom Congo.
In his new role, Motsa will report into Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub. – © 2015 NewsCentral Media
