MultiChoice-owned Internet service provider MWeb on Monday unveiled its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) prices, which will be available to consumers who have access to Telkom’s nascent home fibre network.
The announcement comes on top of MWeb’s plans to work with private fibre provider Vumatel to bring its services to neighbourhoods in Gauteng and the Western Cape.
Among the products on offer include a 100GB bundle on a 100Mbit/s fibre line for R1 199/month, said MWeb GM Carolyn Holgate.
Telkom’s FTTH network has the added benefit of removing the need for compulsory voice line rental, which subscribers to the fixed-line operator’s copper-based ADSL services must pay for, she said.
MWeb’s FTTH rates include line rental charges.
According to MWeb, those in Telkom’s FTTH coverage areas must pay a once-of connection fee of R1 710 and sign a 24-month contract. Line installation takes between two and four weeks. Customers must also buy a router, costing R599.
Telkom’s FTTH network is available in the following suburbs, MWeb said:
