Altron Group has appointed Neil Kayton as the new CEO of its Powertech subsidiary following the resignation of Norbet Claussen from the position this month. Kayton was Powertech’s chief financial officer. The appointment is effective from 1 July.
Kayton, a chartered accountant, joined Powertech in February 2004. He has served on multiple boards within Powertech and is also a member of the executive and remuneration committees.
At the same time, Leon Viljoen, the current CEO of Powertech Transformers, has been named as Powertech’s new chief operating officer. Viljoen is an engineer and has an MBA from Henley Management College. He has been at Powertech for more than 20 years in various management positions and has been responsible for developing and growing the Powertech Transformers division, Altron said in a statement to shareholders.
Altron announced in May that Claussen would be leaving Powertech. He joined Altron in 1996 as CEO of Willard Batteries. The division expanded to become the Powertech Battery Group, comprising Willard Batteries, Dynamic Batteries, Sabat Batteries and Battery Technologies.
In March 2001, Claussen was appointed CEO of Powertech. Between 2006 and 2008 it was the largest contributor to the Altron group’s bottom line.
“After many years in a corporate environment, I am taking the opportunity to become a shareholder in a smaller private business unrelated to the power electronics industry,” Claussen said in May. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
