French telecommunications giant Orange has launched two new points of presence in South Africa, one in Johannesburg and the other in Cape Town. The large-capacity Internet exchange points are operational with immediate effect.
The operator said on Tuesday that the POPs will enhance Internet and mobile connectivity in the region by offering faster connection speeds and improved reliability for wholesale customers.
The POPs are aimed at operators and Internet service providers and will provide three routes, with access to the submarine cables Sat-3 and Eassy (onward to Sea-Me-We-5), with the Africa Coast to Europe (Ace) cable to be added soon.
“Orange is now able to offer reliable, high-quality connections for African countries surrounding South Africa,” the company said in a statement.
Orange also has regional POPs in Amman in Jordan and Abidjan in the Ivory Coast. — (c) 2017 NewsCentral Media
