SABC ‘triples’ spending on Gupta media

SABC-640

The SABC has tripled its monetary support of Gupta-owned media, the Democratic Alliance said on Wednesday.

The public broadcaster has spent more than R700 000 on subscriptions to The New Age newspaper since May 2014, communications minister Faith Muthambi said in a parliamentary reply to a question from the DA.

“This amounts to a tripling in the SABC’s financial support of TNA from R238 356,52 in 2011,” DA MP Phumzile Van Damme claimed in a statement.

“It is deplorable that the SABC has completely disregarded the finance minister’s calls for austerity in order to financially anchor a newspaper with paltry readership, owned by the friends of President Zuma,” Van Damme said.

“I will be urging Muthambi to instruct the SABC chief operating officer, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, to withdraw any active subscriptions with The New Age.”

The SABC’s money could be put to better use, she said.

“The gross extent of state capture by the Guptas is robbing our economy of alleviating poverty and unemployment.”  — (c) 2016 NewsCentral Media

  1. This entire SABC/Faith Whatserface/Motsoeneng = Gupta’s= TNA incestuous relationship should be investigated by an overseas independent forensic audits firm without a moment’s loss of time!
Surely the DA has a decent legal team who can get to the bottom of this insane waste of TAXPAYERS cash?
How can it be that this type of drunken sailor spending by a country CURRENTLY under review by a major credit ratings agency is tolerated by parliament? I thought the SABC had its or rather Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s books regularly examined by qualified auditors?
Also, how long before Moetsoneng get’s his day in court on those verified in-your-face irregular salary increases charges?
Am I the only adult in the room watching these blatant ANC-tolerated shenanigans at Awkward Park?

  2. The guaranteed way to remove the evil ones is at the polls. LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN just as we did with the demise of apartheid, once thought to be impossible.
It’s clearly obvious huge numbers from all walks of life are having 2nd thoughts about cANCer.
We must stay positive and determined and keep talking and pushing for change. The change will come and it will start in August.
