Telkom has lost one of its most senior executives in a car accident. Sammy Gumbe, 42, managing executive for IT systems, passed away on Wednesday.
Details of the accident are still sketchy.
Gumbe, who had a master of business leadership and a bachelor of commerce degree, both from Unisa, was appointed to head up Telkom SA’s IT department in August last year. Prior to that, he was the company’s executive for IT strategy and architecture.
As head of IT, Gumbe was responsible for all of Telkom SA’s IT activities, including strategy, architecture portfolio management, development and support.
He had been with Telkom for 18 years, having joined the company in 1992, and held various senior management positions in IT and human resources.
Telkom SA MD Nombulelo Moholi says Gumbe “consistently distinguished himself on both a professional and personal level. I came to know him as a man of character whose spontaneity and willingness to assist won him many admirers.
“On a professional level his knowledge of the ICT industry always stood Telkom in good stead, especially in the critical position of managing executive.” — Staff reporter, TechCentral
