Listed telecommunications group Telkom has offered its management staff the opportunity to apply for voluntary severance and early retirement packages.
The offer is effective from 28 April until 2 July, the company added in a statement on Friday.
“The move is aimed at enabling Telkom to achieve its business objectives by optimising management levels and improving the competitiveness of the company’s management force while positively impacting its cost base,” Telkom said.
JC Smit, Telkom’s acting chief of human resources, emphasised that although the packages would be offered to all managers, there was no obligation on any manager to apply for a voluntary package.
“The decision to apply for a package is therefore at the sole discretion of every individual Telkom manager,” Smit said.
He added that voluntary severance and early retirement packages and benefits “are a confidential arrangement between Telkom and its employees.” — Sapa
