Independent data centre operator Teraco has begun work on a third facility, located at Great Westerford near Newlands in Cape Town, the company said on Wednesday.
The new data centre is Teraco’s second in Cape Town. It opened another facility in the city’s Rondebosch suburb in 2009.
The Great Westerford data centre should be completed by April 2014, Teraco said. The additional data centre results in an increase of a thousand square metres of space, growing the footprint in Cape Town to about 1 600sq m. Power to the facility will also increase to 3MVA.
CEO Lex van Wyk says Teraco’s data centres are the most connected facilities in Africa and house the largest peering points on the continent. Operators that have facilities in Teraco data centres include Telkom, Neotel, MTN, Vodacom, Cell C, Dark Fibre Africa, BT Group, Level 3 Communications and Seacom. — (c) 2013 NewsCentral Media
