Vodacom has fired the latest shot in the ongoing price skirmishes in the mobile industry. The operator is offering existing prepaid customers the option of getting 60 minutes of talk time if they recharge for R5.
However, the latest offer is a promotion only and expires at the end of July. Also, the minutes have to be used on the day of purchase. Vodacom unveiled the new promotion in full-page advertisements in the Sunday newspapers.
The latest offer comes after rival Cell C recently cut its prices for contract and prepaid customers on a permanent basis, offering subscribers calls at 99c/minute and billed on a per-second basis. It has also cut the cost of international calls to 99c/minute to a number of international destinations, with the promise that more countries will follow.
Vodacom’s latest promotion is available only to prepaid customers who have been active on its network for at least 30 days. Calls at the discounted rate are available during peak hours between 6am and 6pm. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
