Vodacom’s bitter dispute with its partner in its subsidiary in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) hit the front pages of the newspapers in Kinshasa this week. Congolese Wireless Network (CWN), which owns 49% of Vodacom DRC, has accused the JSE-listed Vodacom of fraud, usury and other offences and has filed papers in a Kinshasa court.
CWN claims that Vodacom subsidiary, Vodacom International, has unlawfully taken as much as US$180m out of the DRC business through various means. Vodacom has denied the allegations and says it will defend itself in court if necessary.
Below are the front pages of several Congolese newspapers showing how they’ve covered the story this week.
