Absa has lost another of its top executives. Its managing executive for digital channels, Christo Vrey, has resigned and his deputy, Adrian Vermooten, will fill the vacant position. Vrey left Absa at the end of September.
Vrey, who has been with Absa for nearly 20 years, says that during that time he’s watched the dot-com bubble come and go and has seen mobile and Internet banking move from being new concepts to hugely popular services.
His next move is to Citibank, where he will head up the company’s alternative channels in Mexico. Vrey says Mexico is an “interesting market with many similarities to South Africa”.
Vrey says his departure from Absa is in response to a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” and is unrelated to the recent high turnover of senior executives at the banking group.
He takes up the new position on 5 November. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
