OpenView HD, the free-to-air satellite service launched by e.tv sister company Platco Digital, is joining rival MultiChoice in launching a channel dedicated to the trial of murder accused Oscar Pistorius, which begins on Monday, 3 March.
The channel, called “Trial TV: The State vs Oscar Pistorius”, will run coverage on channel 119 between 10am and 4pm. Court proceedings will be repeated on the channel throughout the schedule.
The trial will take place in the high court in Pretoria. Pistorius stands accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on 14 February 2013.
Media outlets are rushing to cash in on the Pistorius trial, which should wrap up on 20 March.
Last month, MultiChoice said it will launch a 24-hour “pop-up” channel on DStv channel 199. The channel will feature coverage of the legal proceedings, as well as documentaries, profiles and expert analysis. The broadcaster said it is the first time that DStv is using a pop-up channel to cover a news event. — (c) 2014 NewsCentral Media
