A cellphone store at the Glen shopping centre in Ormonde, Johannesburg, was robbed on Monday evening, Gauteng police said. “The suspects stole cellphones and fled the scene,” said Captain Doniah Mothutsane.
No shots were fired and no injuries reported. “No arrests have been made yet, but we are investigating.”
She was unable to confirm the value of the cellphones stolen or the number of people involved in the robbery.
This was the fourth robbery to have taken place at the mall in the past year.
Stock and money from the Samsung store at the mall were stolen on 30 July. Staff were tied up and locked in the back of the shop.
Last month, seven people robbed the mall’s iStore of electronic equipment. A security guard was shot and wounded as the thieves fled.
On 18 November last year, cellphones were stolen from the Vodacom store in the mall. Shots were fired in the parking lot outside. — Sapa
