Cell C has appointed its chief operating officer, Douglas Craigie Stevenson, as interim CEO following the departure of Jose Dos Santos.
The mobile operator said last week that Dos Santos would step down on 28 February.
Blue Label did not say why Dos Santos was leaving, but his exit came just days before the company reported its interim results for the six months ended 30 November 2018. Cell C is expected to report its full-year results to the end of December 2018 this week.
“Jose will take up a role as a consultant to the chairman of the Cell C board in delivery of Cell C’s strategic intent,” Blue Label said in a statement last week. Cell C is chaired by Kuben Pillay.
Craigie Stevenson joined Cell C in 2017 from Telekom Networks Malawi, where he has served as CEO for two years.
He has worked in the telecommunications sector for the past 22 years, with previous jobs including various executive roles at Vodacom. He has worked in South Africa, Malawi, Tanzania and Mozambique.
“He is well versed in planning, execution and negotiation at various organisational levels, with a strong focus on strategic leadership,” Cell C said in a statement at the time of his appointment as chief operating officer.
Craigie Stevenson has an MBA from the University of the Free State and a Bachelor of Accounting Science (honours) from Unisa. — (c) 2019 NewsCentral Media
