In a move that could send shockwaves through SA’s mobile industry, Cell C has announced it is cutting the price of all standard data packages on its network to 15c/MB both in bundle and out of bundle.
The new flat rate applies to all prepaid and contract data bundles and packages and is effective 1 August.
The move follows Cell C’s decision to simplify its voice tariffs, offering per-second billing with tariffs of 99c/minute, day or night, for both prepaid and contract customers.
“What you see is what you get,” says Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig. “[There are] no more nasty surprises when you go out of bundle. You will pay one low rate for in-bundle and out-of-bundle usage.”
He says the new, 15c/MB tariff, will suit everyone from the occasional Internet browser to the “hardcore technology junkie”. Out-of-bundle rates on rival networks are as high as R2/MB.
Cell C will continue offering data bundles, ranging from R7,50 for 50MB of data up to R3 070 for 20GB. Data is billed is 5kB increments.
Promotional data bundles will continue to feature over and above the new, standard rates. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
