The eNews Channel, the 24-hour television news service available on MultiChoice’s DStv platform, will launch on the Sky digital satellite platform in the UK in coming weeks. The service will target the sizeable expatriate community. A launch date has not yet been confirmed.
Sky has more than 10m subscribers in the UK. eNews technical staff are conducting tests on the signal to the UK from SA and Rob Brown, head of technical operations, says the channel will be made available as soon as the broadcaster is happy and “everything is running smoothly”.
Brown says the company is “getting close to finalising the test phase”.
eNews is also planning a rebranding of the service to coincide with its UK launch.
“Due to our expansion, we will have to rebrand our service to make it relevant to viewers abroad and here at home” says Patrick Conroy, group head of news.
Conroy says the news service and content will not change. The rebranding exercise only applies to the eNews Channel and not the news bulletins aired on e.tv and kykNET.
eNews has also reiterated that it will launch an online offering before the end of the year but has declined to provide further information about it. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
