Former IBM South Africa MD Mark Harris has been named as the new CEO of Kagiso Media. He replaces Murphy Morobe, who stepped down recently.
The JSE-listed Kagiso, which owns a range of radio stations, including East Coast Radio, Jacaranda FM and Kaya FM, told shareholders on Wednesday that Harris will take the reins at the media group on 1 August.
Harris has spent the past 30 years at IBM in various capacities, including head of the South African operations. More recently, he has been involved in growing IBM’s operations in 18 African markets.
“Mark has engaged strategically to consider integrated and converged channels in the ICT sector, which experience will be invaluable to Kagiso Media as it develops its digital strategy,” Kagiso Media says. “He brings strong strategic and operational experience to the group.”
The company’s Internet assets include Web portal Howzit MSN, which is published under licence from Microsoft, as well as digital advertising agency Acceleration Media.
Until Harris takes up the role, Omar Essack, who heads Kagiso Media’s broadcasting division, will act as group CEO. — (c) 2013 NewsCentral Media
