[dropcap]T[/dropcap]hose who use First National Bank’s transactional banking app for smartphones will no longer pay for data when accessing services. From 1 July, the data the app uses will be zero-rated across all networks, FNB said on Thursday.
“We believe that access to data or airtime should not be a barrier to safe and convenient banking for South Africans. The zero rating of the app is in line with our broader strategy to migrate customers to digital and electronic channels where a number of transactions and services are already offered free of charge,” said FNB Digital spokesman Guiseppe Virgillito.
He said the bank already offers free Wi-Fi in most of its branches, allowing consumers to download the FNB App for free.
Banks like FNB are keen to push customers out of branches and onto lower-cost digital platforms. Zero-rating the app should help convince more customers to use the app as their banking channel of choice.
The app features solutions such as FNB Pay, Fingerprint ID, Secure Chat, Smart inContact, 1-touch Report Fraud, nav Car and nav Home, eBucks Partner locator and FNB TV, among others, the bank said in a statement. — (c) 2017 NewsCentral Media
