A man involved in the R42m Post Bank cyber heist was sentenced to 15 years in jail by the Hoopstad Magistrate’s Court in the Free State on Tuesday, the Hawks said.
“Teboho Donald Masoleng appeared before a magistrate in Hoopstad, and pleaded guilty to charges of fraud. He was sentenced to 15 years for his role in the heist,” colonel McIntosh Polela said in a statement.
Masoleng was part of a gang that hacked into the Post Bank system and transferred R42m into various accounts at the end of last year.
He was arrested in Welkom on 12 February and was charged with fraud.
“On arresting him, police confiscated a Mini Cooper, which he had bought to carry some of the loot stolen during the heist,” said Polela. — Sapa
