In early May, Durban-based Ignition Group will launch South Africa’s newest mobile virtual network operator.
The new company, receiving support services from sister company MVN-X — the business that helped launch retailer Mr Price’s MRP Mobile recently — has now revealed its full pricing plans.
The company, which hopes to attract well-to-do customers currently on contract with its simple, Sim-only, online-only offering, plans to offer data bundles starting at 15c/MB and to offer calls for as little as 39c/minute (see tables below).
Its highest call rate is 69c/minute, with packages starting at R50/month and going up to R500. The bigger the package, the lower the in-bundle rate for voice and data. Calls are billed per second and data is billed in 25kB increments. SMSes cost 60c and MMSes 70c.
The business is headed by Brett Howell, who previously held a senior marketing position at South African Breweries. One of me&you’s most popular calling plans is likely to be its unlimited plan, which costs R300/month at launch and offers unlimited calls to South African networks.
Customers sign up online, choose the monthly deal they want and select how much additional monthly credit they’d like above their monthly allocation to allow them to spend beyond their upfront commitment.
The company, which uses Cell C’s network, has a call centre (provided by MVN-X), with customer support also offered via online channels such as Facebook, Twitter, the Web and a dedicated WhatsApp number. — (c) 2015 NewsCentral Media
