MTN South Africa has opened its 4G/LTE network to prepaid users for the first time, the mobile operator announced on Wednesday. Until now, access to the super-fast 4G network was limited to its contract customers.
Rival Vodacom has offered 4G services to both its contract and prepaid users for some time.
“The new MTN PayAsYouGo LTE Sim cards are available from any MTN-branded store and from participating retail outlets,” said chief marketing officer Larry Annetts in a statement.
The R1,50 Sim pack consists of a standard Sim, a micro Sim and a nano Sim. Data bundles available include a 3GB capped option for R299, 5GB for R399, 10GB for R599 and 20GB for R1 199.
“To take advantage of this, customers need to ensure their handsets are LTE-capable and that they are in an LTE coverage area,” MTN said.
MTN has rolled out 4G/LTE networks to parts of Gauteng, the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western and Eastern Cape. The operator has 790 LTE sites live. — © 2014 NewsCentral Media
