Months after announcing it would introduce a 200MB/month “fair-usage” cap on the popular BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS), MTN South Africa has debuted a range of new, capped BlackBerry packages.
The company has also decided to remove the 200MB cap on its BlackBerry Absolute plan, which was introduced in March at R59/month, but it has announced it is scrapping the plan altogether in favour of the new products, which will be introduced on 14 July.
However, MTN is reintroducing an unlimited data package for R59,95/month, effectively backtracking on its earlier moves to effectively cap BlackBerry BIS users.
The new plans are designed to cater for different subscribers’ data usage patterns, MTN says.
It is introducing a new, entry-level BlackBerry product called Messaging, which offers 30MB/month for R14,95. A Social plan offers 40MB for R19,95/month, while a Social and E-mail option, with 100MB of data, costs R29,95/month. A 200MB option costs R39,95, representing an effective price cut over the Absolute plan.
The new service plans provide access to through BIS to personal e-mail and attachments as well as on-device Web browsing, social networking and instant messaging, including BlackBerry Messenger. — (c) 2013 NewsCentral Media
