In an effort clearly designed at getting South Africans to try its wireless broadband network, Telkom Mobile is offering what it’s calling “first-time Internet users” the opportunity to get online for a year for a R49 once-off fee.
For that price, South Africa’s fourth mobile entrant is offering consumers 200MB/month of data over 12 months, allowing them to consume up to 2,4GB over the period. The special deal is available only on Telkom Mobile’s 3G and 4G data network, and users cannot roam onto MTN’s network. Telkom has a roaming deal with MTN.
The prepaid, Sim-only Internet starter pack “provides first time Internet users the opportunity to start their online journey with South Africa’s best mobile broadband provider”, says the PR to support the new product.
The starter pack can be used on most devices, including tablets and smartphones, and it can be inserted into a data modem to be used on a laptop or desktop.
Telkom Mobile will also provide technical support for the product.
Data allocation is done on the first of every month and will be valid until the end of the current calendar month. In addition, customers can buy additional data bundles — at Telkom’s regular bundle prices — once they have depleted their monthly data allocation.
For R399 once-off, customers will also get a 3G USB modem included with the deal. — (c) 2013 NewsCentral Media
