Sentech CEO Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane has resigned before the end of her contract in September, the state-owned signal distributor said on Wednesday.
“Today [Wednesday] is her last day,” Sentech spokeswoman Polly Modiko said.
Modiko did not know who would take over as acting CEO.
Last month a task team report on the company did not explicitly recommend axing its chief executive officer and board.
However, the report found that Sentech was “rudderless, inadequately funded and misdirected” and was an unsustainable business.
The task team urged drastic and immediate action if Sentech was to avoid lapsing into terminal decline.
The company’s situation had been caused by several factors including a new regulatory regime allowing competition, the absence of a clear ICT industry framework and a misaligned business strategy.
The report added that declining profits and the demands of the digital environment would further erode profitability and that migration to less expensive digital channels was a further threat. — Sapa
