Vodacom Group has named a BP executive as its new MD to replace Shameel Joosub, who is now the CEO of Vodafone in Spain.
The company has been without an MD of its most important operating subsidiary since the beginning of April.
Maseko comes to Vodacom without a telecommunications background, having been the CEO of BP Southern Africa since 2008. He is expected to take up his position at the beginning of September.
Since joining BP in 1997 he has also held the positions of chief operating officer and deputy CEO.
Before his stint at BP, Maseko worked at Werksmans Attorneys and the Financial Services Board. He holds a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of laws (LLB) from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Maseko will also be a member of the Vodacom Group board.
Before taking the reins at Vodacom SA, Joosub was MD of the Vodacom Service Provider Company between 2000 and 2005. He joined Vodacom in March 1994, the same year the operator launched its first commercial services. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
