Standard Bank’s online banking services were offline on Monday morning, prompting frustrated customers to turn to social media to complain.
“Internet banking is temporarily unavailable [and] we are working on restoring services urgently. Apologies for the inconvenience caused,” said a message posted on the bank’s website.
In a tweet, Standard Bank said customers could still swipe their cards and withdraw cash. “We will continue to update clients on Twitter until the technical issues affecting various services this morning are resolved,” it said.
Users have also reported not being able to bank using Standard Bank’s smartphone and tablet applications.
The bank did not say when it expects services to be restored.
Update: Standard Bank has issued a statement saying that customers are also not able to conduct transactions in branches. “Customers can still perform transactions at any of our ATMs and point-of-sale devices,” it said.
“Standard Bank would like to apologise for the inconvenience that this has caused, and would like to assure our customers that everything is being done to restore services as quickly as possible.” — (c) 2015 NewsCentral Media
