Mustek associate lands R1bn Nigeria deal

Nigerian company Zinox Technologies, in which JSE-listed Mustek has a 12% stake, has landed a deal worth R1bn for voter registration machines. Zinox must supply 132 000 machines to Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission

Datatec makes R97m play for Comztek

In a bid to strengthen its own distribution business, London- and Johannesburg-listed IT group Datatec is making a play for local distribution business Comztek. Datatec says it has made a R97m offer to Comztek’s shareholders for 100% of the business. According to Datatec’s statement, part of the offer will be paid in cash and the rest in new Datatec shares.

Cheap broadband to drive hardware sales

Computer assembler and technology distributor Mustek says dramatic price cuts in broadband, coupled with investments in telecommunications infrastructure, will lead to an improvement in the sales of PCs and monitors and other IT hardware in SA. The company, which published its annual results to 30 June 2010 on Monday, says rapid improvements in local telecoms have resulted in SA’s bandwidth almost reaching “parity with the rest of the world”.
