Shoprite Group’s Checkers Sixty60 online shopping platform continues to grow an astounding rate.

Checkers Sixty60 grew sales by 81% year on year in the 52 weeks ended 2 July, and now plans a R99/month subscription service.

Shoprite Group plans to expand its online grocery delivery service to 80 more stores in the next six months, adding to the 266 stores already in the network.

Shoprite Holdings said Checkers has entered into a joint venture agreement with its delivery partner, RTT Group, as part of a push to grow its e-commerce business.

Shoprite Group has created a new digital business unit called ShopriteX in which it plans to combine data science, technology and innovation to “enhance customer experiences”.

Pick n Pay can expect some competition from rival Shoprite when it comes to offering a mobile data and voice service.
