Wi-Fi operator WirelessG has a new owner. On Wednesday, Exmile Technologies revealed that it has acquired the assets of the troubled company, which has been under business rescue since August 2015.
Exmile has bought the assets based on a “revised and improved business plan” from WirelessG’s creditors.
Exmile Technologies is owned by its management team, made up of Jan van der Nest (CEO), Henk Badenhorst (chief technology officer), Braam Linde (chief operating officer) and Hazel Badenhorst (chief financial officer).
It has transferred the going concern it purchased from WirelessG into an operational company, called GConnect, which it now wholly owns.
GConnect offers both managed Wi-Fi hotspot services to businesses and wholesale Wi-Fi services to Internet service providers and operators, and has installed Wi-Fi services for brands such as KFC, Holiday Inn Express Hotels, Mercure Hotels and Popeyes Louisiana Chicken.
GConnect has a network footprint of 600 Wi-Fi hotspots across South Africa. “One of our key objectives is to inrease our Wi-Fi hotspot footprint rapidly over the next couple of years,” said Van der Nest in a statement.
The company also revealed the completed development of its own social Wi-Fi and analytics software, where Wi-Fi hotspot customers can use the software to engage directly with consumers who have previously used their Wi-Fi service. — (c) 2018 NewsCentral Media
