MTN SA is losing its highly respected chief technology officer, Sameer Dave, who will depart his post next month when his three-year contract comes to an end.
But Dave, credited with building a powerful third-generation mobile network in the run-up to the 2010 soccer World Cup, may stay with the MTN group.
Dave, who was headhunted from Indonesia’s Maxis Telecom by MTN group CEO Phuthuma Nhleko, says his contract expires in mid-December, and he’s keen to take on a more strategic role in the telecommunications industry. In the role, Dave has overseen tens of billions of rand in network spending for MTN SA.
“I have yet to firm up my plans and start searching for a new position, either in the group, or outside MTN,” Dave says.
Long-standing MTN executive Lambo Kagaratham, who is currently GM for technology at group level, will replace Dave as MTN SA technology head. — Duncan McLeod, TechCentral
