Joan Joffe is TechCentral’s next guest on TCS Legends, the podcast series that spotlights individuals who played a meaningful role in the development of the ICT sector in South Africa.
Joffe, who brought the original IBM PC to South Africa through her company Joffe Associates in the early 1980s, is equally well known for the work she did in the early days of South Africa’s cellular industry as one of the first employees at Vodacom. She remembers her time there, including the role played by Alan Knott-Craig in building the mobile operator.
But before her time at Vodacom, she was a successful businesswoman in a male-dominated tech sector, and her early success importing and selling a range of technologies – including the IBM PC and early Apple products – made her a well-known figure in the local tech industry.
