Offsite document storage specialist Metrofile has suffered a blaze at one of its records management facilities in KwaZulu-Natal, it told shareholders on Monday.
Client data has been “affected” by the fire, which broke out on Friday evening and which was only contained by the following day. No injuries were reported.
“The company is working with relevant authorities and has commenced a full investigation to determine the cause of the incident, as well as which client records have been affected,” it said in the statement.
“All clients whose records have been affected will be contacted directly,” it added.
“All operating systems and data have been moved to an alternative site and are up and running. The offices, imaging bureau, management of backup tapes and hard drives were not impacted although delays in delivery will occur in the week ahead due to limited access to the site.”
Metrofile said it is insured against fire and has notified its insurers.
“The company has successfully activated its business continuity and disaster recovery plan,” the statement to shareholders said.
In the financial year ended June 2013, Metrofile recorded R590,1m in revenue and profit of R108,1m. — (c) 2013 NewsCentral Media
