Cell C has cut the cost of using broadband late at night in an effort to fill its network during periods of low usage.
The company has introduced two new bundles, under the GigaNite branding, which provides lower-cost Internet access between midnight and 6am daily.
Customers can bolt on either a 10GB bundle for R149/month or a 20GB bundle for R249/month onto any Cell C SmartData post-paid contract. The data is loaded in addition to the bundles that come as part of the contract.
Data consumed between midnight and 6am will first be depleted from the GigaNite bundle. The out-of-bundle rate is 15c/MB.
“Since we have significant capacity available on our network at night, we decided to pass on this benefit to customers and offer data at extremely competitive rates during this time period,” says Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig in a statement.
Rival Vodacom has offered similar, although differently priced, products for some time under the Night Owl branding. Vodacom’s discounts apply between midnight and 5am.
The new Cell C bundles will be available from 10 October. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
