If anyone had any doubt that there is a price war going on in SA’s mobile market, Cell C’s latest cut to international call rates should put those doubts to bed. The company has announced a promotional rate of 85c/minute, billed per second, to 50 international destinations until end-January 2013.
The new rate has undercuts Vodacom’s recently launched promotional offer of 89c/minute to 51 destinations, which expires at the end of December.
Vodacom customers need to opt in to enjoy the new rates the lower rates and have to pay R5/month for the privilege. Cell C customers will automatically be charged the new tariff when making calls to any of the countries the promotion covers.
“We promised we would better the rate if our competition responded to our standard international call rate, and we have,” says Alan Knott-Craig, Cell C’s CEO. “Now, with the 85c promotion, Cell C customers can truly experience the lowest international call rate in SA from a mobile phone.” — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
