First National Bank has extended the functionality of its e-wallet, making it possible for any customer to send money to any SA mobile user using the FNB banking application for mobile devices.
Recipients can withdraw the cash, use it to buy prepaid airtime or electricity, send the money to another cellular phone, make once-off payments or make purchases or a withdrawal at certain retailers.
Since the launch of the e-wallet service in 2009, FNB says more than 1m e-wallets have been created, with the average amount sent daily using the service amounting to R3m and total transactions to date amounting to over R1,8bn.
When money is sent using the FNB mobile app, the funds are transferred instantly and the recipient receives an SMS indicating that funds have been sent to their cellphone.
In addition to the new e-wallet functionality, users of the FNB app who are also premier banking clients can identify and contact their “premier banker” by means of a free call or message. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
