Vodacom contract customers who were double debited this month will receive 500MB of free data as a way of saying sorry for the inconvenience that was caused, the mobile operator has said.
Vodacom said in an SMS to affected customers on Wednesday that they will receive the 500MB allocation, which must be used within seven days. “Once again, we sincerely apologise for the erroneous debit on your account and any inconvenience caused,” the operator said in the SMS.
Company spokesman Tshepo Ramodibe told TechCentral that in instances where an account is linked to multiple lines — such as a master business account — only the principle account holder will receive the free 500MB benefit as only this account holder was affected by the billing glitch.
Fin24 reported on Tuesday that about 200 000 Vodacom accounts were affected by the glitch that resulted in those customers being double debited twice last week. Vodacom has now refunded the affected users and apologised to them.
Vodacom first alerted customers about the glitch on New Year’s Day, and promised to provide refunds by Tuesday.
“We have reviewed the incident and associated processes to rule out a recurrence,” Ramodibe was quoted as saying. — (c) 2015 NewsCentral Media
