Microsoft SA MD Mteto Nyati has been appointed as a nonexecutive director on the board of JSE-listed telecommunications group Blue Label Telecoms.
Nyati, who has headed Microsoft’s SA operation for the past two years, takes up the role from today.
He replaced Peter Mansour, who had represented Microsoft’s interests on the board for the past three years.
Microsoft is a significant minority shareholder in Blue Label. In 2007, the US software company bought about 12% of the SA business, shortly before its listing on the JSE. Microsoft continues to hold the stake.
At the time, Blue Label said the deal would result in the Microsoft providing advertising services as well as access and licenses to various Web-based technologies. The main product the two companies have developed is the Mibli mobile services platform. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
