TechCentral will publish the final episode of season 1 of its popular TCS Legends show on Monday, and our guest is South African internet and software industry pioneer Mark Todes.
Todes is well known in the ICT industry for leading a fight – with David Frankel, his co-chair at the time of the Internet Service Providers’ Assocation – against Telkom’s attempt in the late 1990s to extend its government-sanctioned telecommunications monopoly to include the provision of internet services in South Africa.
Telkom lost the fight.

But there’s much more to Todes’ remarkable career than this fight against a telecoms monopolist. Indeed, he has a storied career as a successful software and internet entrepreneur.
Of course, he also recounts the epic battle with Telkom, and how the parties eventually reached a peace deal.
It’s a great interview, and you can catch it right here on TechCentral this coming Monday, 3 June.
