No comment. At least not yet. That was the reaction from communications minister Roy Padayachie to news that Telkom acting CEO Jeffrey Hedberg would leave the telecommunications group at the end of March.
Padayachie declined to answer reporters’ questions about Telkom at a press conference in Midrand on Monday. The minister had called the event to announce government’s decision to adopt the European standard for digital terrestrial television.
He said it was not an appropriate forum to take questions about Hedberg or Telkom, but that journalists would be given that opportunity at a later date.
TechCentral broke the news on Thursday that Hedberg would step down. Senior sources at the group told this publication that the former Cell C CEO had turned down a request from Telkom chairman Jeff Molobela to stay on until November 2011.
Telkom confirmed on Friday morning that Hedberg would leave the employ of the group on 31 March. — Duncan McLeod, TechCentral
