Microsoft will this week announce that its South African MD, Mteto Nyati, will be moving on to a new role in the organisation. Nyati will take on the newly created position of head of the Africa region, a well-placed source who says he has knowledge of the move has told TechCentral.

Nyati will be replaced by current Microsoft South Africa chief operating officer Zoaib Hoosen, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of a close working relationship with the company that he does not want to jeopardise.

(Update: Microsoft has since announced that Nyati’s formal role will be as GM for emerging markets in the Middle East and Africa.)

Nyati, who joined Microsoft in August 2008 from IBM South Africa, where he was director of the Global Technology Services business, will remain based in Johannesburg. He took the reins from Pfungwa Serima, who moved on to head up SAP Africa.

Hoosen, who heads the sales, marketing and services functions at Microsoft in South Africa, is set to take the reins from Nyati. According to LinkedIn, he spent 22 years at IBM before joining Microsoft as head of the company’s Enterprise Partner Group.

Microsoft will hold a press conference early this week at which it’s expected to provide details behind the reason for the changes to reporting structures in the region. A spokesman for the company declined to comment ahead of the press conference.  — © 2014 NewsCentral Media
