There are more signs of Vodacom’s imminent rebranding.
First, the cellular operator took down its hoarding at the top of the Ponte tower in Johannesburg, replacing it with a red and white background hinting that the refreshed brand will adopt the corporate colours of its UK parent Vodafone.
Now an eagle-eyed TechCentral reader has snapped these pictures, showing the large Vodacom “globe”, which used to be installed in front of the company’s sprawling head office in Midrand, being transported on the back of a truck down Old Pretoria Road in Sandton, north of Johannesburg.
According to Andre Prinsloo, who took the pictures on Tuesday morning near the Marlboro offramp on the M1 motorway, the truck was causing traffic congestion. Having reached a bridge on Old Pretoria Road, the driver couldn’t continue after realising the “globe” was too tall to fit under the structure.
It’s believed Vodacom will unveil its new brand in early April. Though it will retain the Vodacom name, it is expected to adopt much of Vodafone’s brand image. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
