Six men appeared in the Pretoria specialised commercial crime court on Monday in connection with credit card fraud involving millions, the Hawks said.
The men, two South Africans, two Nigerians, one Burundian and a Democratic Republic of Congo citizen, would remain in custody until their next court appearance on Friday, spokesman McIntosh Polela said.
“The Hawks arrested the men in Tembisa, Rosebank, Pretoria and Olifantsfontein on Friday for manufacturing credit cards.”
The Hawks received a tip-off about a month ago and started an investigation, in conjunction with Absa, First National Bank, Standard Bank and Nedbank.
Polela said 200 credit cards, R5 000 and cash checks worth R1,3m were seized during their arrests. — Sapa
