MTN has appointed Suren Sooklal as group chief business risk officer, replacing Shauket Fakie, who is retiring after eight years with the group. Sooklal will take on the role effective immediately.
Sooklal joins MTN from PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he held various roles during his 12-year tenure, including most recently group audit engagement partner and group relationship partner on the MTN account and other listed companies.
“In his new role, Sooklal will be responsible for establishing and implementing a risk management framework for MTN Group, to effectively manage all risk exposures,” the telecommunications operator said. “He will also be required to work with the business leadership team and MTN operations to ensure that risks are identified and proactively managed.”
“Sooklal has an extensive 34-year track record, working with clients in the public and private sector, locally and internationally. We are confident that the wealth of experience he brings to MTN will enable him to add immense value to his new role,” said MTN Group CEO Sifiso Dabengwa.
Sooklal has a bachelor of commerce degree, a postgraduate diploma in public accounting and auditing and a postgraduate diploma in taxation. He is also a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. — © 2015 NewsCentral Media
