South Africa has announced eight preferred bidders to provide emergency power as the state-run electricity monopoly continues to implement rolling blackouts that are weighing on the economy.
Eskom said late on Wednesday evening that it will suspend load shedding on Thursday between 10am and 2pm “to allow the nation to mourn the passing” of Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini.

Eskom said it is undertaking long-overdue repairs at its facilities amid a high risk of nationwide outages, and it expects supply to improve later this year.
