Former Cell C CEO, US national Jeffrey Hedberg, intends to stay in SA and to remain actively involved in the information and communications technology industry.
Speaking to TechCentral on Wednesday, Hedberg says he has not made any decisions about his future career plans, adding that he’s taking time to ensure he makes a “good decision”.
“I don’t want to make another bad decision,” he says.
Hedberg, who is also a former acting group CEO of fixed-line telecommunications operator Telkom, resigned from Altech, where he was chief operating officer, after only a few months in the job. Sources tell TechCentral that he had been promised the CEO role, occupied by Craig Venter, with Venter possibly moving on to another role in the Altron stable. Altron is the holding company of Altech.
However, it became clear, sources say, that Venter was not going to relinquish the Altech role anytime soon.
Last week, Venter said Altech was looking internally for a replacement to Hedberg. “We want to make the right appointment and ensure it is the right appointment,” he said.
Hedberg says both he and his family are keen to remain based in SA. He says he has had a number of approaches, both from SA companies and from international firms, but it appears it may still be some time before he commits to a new job.
For the moment, he says he is keeping himself busy advising private equity companies on a number of potential transactions and spending quality time with his family. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
