The former chairman of communications regulator Icasa, Paris Mashile, is back in the hot seat, albeit in an acting capacity.
He replaces outgoing acting chairman Rubben Mohlaloga, whose term as councillor ended last month.
Mohlaloga joined Icasa in July 2013 as a councillor. He was then appointed as acting chairman on 22 June 2016, a role he fulfilled until the end of his term.
During his tenure, Mohlaloga led a number of major projects, including the process for licensing of new spectrum for broadband (currently the subject of a high court challenge by telecommunications & postal services minister Siyabonga Cwele), the licensing of free-to-air television broadcasting services, and the review and updating of the national radio frequency plan.
“In order to ensure continuity, the council of Icasa has unanimously agreed to appoint councillor Paris Mashile as the acting chairperson pending the formal appointment of a permanent chairperson,” the authority said in a statement. — (c) 2017 NewsCentral Media
