Vodacom has finally taken the wraps off its new broadband prices, introducing lower rates on its Broadband Standard offering that will take effect from 1 August as competition with rivals MTN, 8ta and Cell C intensifies.
The new rates take the cost per megabyte of high-end bundles to as low as 14c/MB, with Vodacom introducing its “Night Owl” offering to all customers — offering the same basic data allocation again for use between midnight and 5am when the company’s network is typically quietest. Night Owl was previously only available as a special offer.
Also, the maximum out-of-bundle rate is being cut from R2/MB to R1/MB.
Existing Vodacom contract subscribers will automatically benefit from the new tariffs and will be migrated to the next bigger bundle size while paying less, the company says in a statement. For example, current 300MB subscribers will be migrated to 500MB at a lower overall tariff, the company says.
Over and above the Broadband Standard price reductions, Vodacom also provides a free e-mail service with a storage capacity of 3GB and two hours of free technical support. Vodacom technicians will also come to customers’ homes to help them with installing the modem software for the first time or troubleshoot an existing installation.
Competition in the mobile broadband market is driving down prices, with 8ta and Cell C recently introducing new offers to entice customers to their networks and MTN cutting the price of its “uncapped” offerings.
