Vodacom has expanded the number of markets where it’s offering discounted roaming charges, meaning contract customers can make calls while abroad for rates starting at R2,50/minute in countries where Vodafone operates (plus a few others) and going up to R7,50/minute in most other territories.
The new roaming fees, which attract a daily roaming charge of R30 in Vodafone territories and limited other markets and R60 in non-Vodafone markets, should also help offset data bill shock, which has became a major issue for some travellers.
Those roaming on a Vodafone network, or those travelling in the US, Fiji, Belgium, China, Switzerland, Hong Kong or Swaziland, will pay R2/MB for data and R7,50/MB when roaming on other networks.
More details about the tariffs, which are effective immediately, are available in the table below.
The Vodacom “Travel Safer” footprint has been expanded from 27 countries to 180 markets around the world, the mobile operator said.
Those wanting to access the service should SMS “save” to 123 from their Vodacom handset, or select the relevant calling service in the Vodacom smartphone app. Alternatively, they can select the option under “calling services” on the Vodacom website.
The operator has also introduced a toll-free support number, +2782111, which subscribers can call to resolve any issues while abroad without being charged for the call. – © 2015 NewsCentral Media
