Datatec, SA’s biggest listed technology group, said on Tuesday that its subsidiary, Westcon, had acquired Sentronics, a local value-added distributor of security systems. Datatec did not disclose the value of the deal.
Westcon is Datatec’s biggest subsidiary, having contributed 74% of Datatec’s revenue during the most recent financial year. Westcon said the addition of Sentronics would allow it to meet the growing demand for security solutions among its customers.
Sentronics was founded in 2004 and supplies a number of electronic security products including CCTV equipment, access control, building management systems and integrated security solutions. It distributes for manufacturers such as Flir, Pelco, Sony and Vivotek and offers its own internally branded physical security solutions called Synergy.
The company has annual revenues of about US$8m and will now form part of Westcon’s SA security operations.
Datatec CEO Jens Montanana said the acquisition of what he called a “niche security distributor” would enable Westcon “to address changing local market conditions”. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
