Branded Internet, a company that specialises in providing wholesale, white-label Internet service provider solutions to SA brands like Musica and Edgars, has cut its wholesale rates for ADSL bandwidth to as low as R8/GB.
“We expect our customers will pass on these decreases within the next week,” says Branded Internet CEO Lance Terner.
Terner says Branded Internet has partnered with an up-stream provider — he says the provider has asked not to be named — to secure the reduction in bandwidth prices. The cost of the bandwidth it supplies onward to its customers has fallen from R40/GB previously, he says.
Unlike some service providers, which have secured lower prices by purchasing bandwidth exclusively on the new Seacom undersea cable, Terner says Branded Internet uses capacity on both Seacom and Sat-3, providing redundancy to its customers should one of the cables go offline.
“Investments in our own infrastructure, coupled with changes in the telecoms landscape, have enabled us to drive down costs,” he says.
Branded Internet allows ADSL resellers, computer dealers, consumer brands and other organisations to provide Internet services to their customers, loyalty program members or even their employees. Its clients include Musica, Edgars Club, Momentum Multiply and Sahara Computers.
Terner says that despite the dramatic price cut, the R8/GB bandwidth is “very lightly shaped”, meaning consumers can use it for services like online gaming and peer-to-peer file sharing. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
